Hi all im looking for some good advice really, basicly I have recently bought a Acer netbook and Im impressed by it but as im a webdesigner I would like to add a couple of programmes like a ftp programme, gui editor just incase my main pc dies.The default os is Linpus Lite which im not too impressed with bit too simple and I would like more control over my system, Does any recommend what system I should use and would best suit my needs?

Hey, I don’t know if I post it in the right place or not. Anyway, I downloaded a .flv video from Youtube and wanted to insert it into my presentaton. I tried using the normal way but failed. Can anybody tell me the right way?

Any comment will be highly appreciated!

Oh, one more thing, what if I want to play my presentation on Youtube? Can I just upload it directly onto that site?

I am (one of many) members of the Famous Writhligton Orchid Project, which will be attending the chealsea flower show this year (I’m the techie dude =D). Anyway, we have a Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 which we need to take the image from and put in a simple web browser for the show. It won’t be shown over the internet, just locally for the show.

The webpage will be shown on a TV screen.

Any how-to ideas?

I’ve long thought cloud computing sounds very useful and exciting, but I’ve never actually given it a spin yet. I really prefer to work with files that are safe and secure on my local hard drive.

However, I just read an article touting tthe benefits of cloud computing, which include security. If someone steals your cloudbook, they’ll get no files if the documents you’ve been working on are all online. When you get home, just change your online passwords, and you’re safe.

With that in mind, where does one begin? What cloud services do you use or recommend? I’d be priimarily interested in word processing, but it would be cool if it was possible to work with Dreamweaver and Photoshop online.

A relatd question: If someone steals your cloudbook, they’d still have access to your browsers and e-mail clients, with all their passwords. Does anyone have any tips for protecting passwords. Can you somehow rig a netbook so that the browsers would automatically uninstall or purge their passwords if someone tried other than the owner tried to use them?

Hi,

I updated to IE8 and now all my links in the favorites folder do not have a url attached. I tried to google for the problem and some information I found suggested a wrong path in the registry. I looked at that and did not see a wrong path.

Does anybody else have the same issue?
Can I roll back to IE7 if I can not fix this?

Does anybody no how to have multiple Google calendars integrated with Thunderbirds Lightning remote calendars features? I have the default google calendar set-up, but would like to have 2/3 additional ones set-up as well so each can have different online access permissions.

I do run on my Mac all day all year. I use it to work (design, web, photo) and for personal use to. It’s a laptop so it is easy to combine both. I use it 85% work, 15% personal at home. I just pop into my head lately that I should get a second one just in case it dies one day….
I would also appreciate having 2 computers at home/office.

I presently run : PowerBook G4 1.5 ghz (2000$) + Dell 22″ widescreen (350$) + 400gig exernal drive (250$)

I am looking to a solution to either

option 1 : Get a new mac (1800-3000$), keep the old one close.

option 2 : Get a PC (500$), keep the old one close, but will still need to be changed one day or another. (I like less the option #2 tough, but it is way cheaper)

…and as option 1, this is where i get confused… I can’t decide if I would got for a macbook 13″ - macbook15″, or a imac 20″ - imac 24″ (and sell my widescreen), or go big with a huge macpro ??
I kind of appreciate the combo of having a laptop and close it to plug a big screen, it helps sometimes… but maybe the imac is the best bang for the buck ?
My Powerbook is bean running super great since the begining and it is gonna be 3 years soon so in one way I say why go for the huge macpro then. They we got the other ones to choose from, and why ?

Did any bright spark write a windows desktop client for making replies to postings on this forum?

Or an AIR app, or a FF plug-in or something?

I’ve been twittering for a few weeks now and think I can start to reign in online compulsions - so may as well throw SP into the mix by making it easier to interact.

I’ve been twittering for a few weeks now and think I can start to reign in online compulsions - so may as well throw SP into the mix by making it easier to interact.

Has anybody experienced a similar problem to this? I installed Windows 7 RC yesturday which won’t detect my microphone as being plugged in (even though XP will). It appears to be a problem with windows, not skype.

Hi all im looking for some good advice really, basicly I have recently bought a Acer netbook and Im impressed by it but as im a webdesigner I would like to add a couple of programmes like a ftp programme, gui editor just incase my main pc dies.The default os is Linpus Lite which im not too impressed with bit too simple and I would like more control over my system, Does any recommend what system I should use and would best suit my needs?

I’ve long thought cloud computing sounds very useful and exciting, but I’ve never actually given it a spin yet. I really prefer to work with files that are safe and secure on my local hard drive.

However, I just read an article touting tthe benefits of cloud computing, which include security. If someone steals your cloudbook, they’ll get no files if the documents you’ve been working on are all online. When you get home, just change your online passwords, and you’re safe.

With that in mind, where does one begin? What cloud services do you use or recommend? I’d be priimarily interested in word processing, but it would be cool if it was possible to work with Dreamweaver and Photoshop online.

A relatd question: If someone steals your cloudbook, they’d still have access to your browsers and e-mail clients, with all their passwords. Does anyone have any tips for protecting passwords. Can you somehow rig a netbook so that the browsers would automatically uninstall or purge their passwords if someone tried other than the owner tried to use them?

I am (one of many) members of the Famous Writhligton Orchid Project, which will be attending the chealsea flower show this year (I’m the techie dude =D). Anyway, we have a Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 which we need to take the image from and put in a simple web browser for the show. It won’t be shown over the internet, just locally for the show.

The webpage will be shown on a TV screen.

Any how-to ideas?

Does anybody no how to have multiple Google calendars integrated with Thunderbirds Lightning remote calendars features? I have the default google calendar set-up, but would like to have 2/3 additional ones set-up as well so each can have different online access permissions.

I do run on my Mac all day all year. I use it to work (design, web, photo) and for personal use to. It’s a laptop so it is easy to combine both. I use it 85% work, 15% personal at home. I just pop into my head lately that I should get a second one just in case it dies one day….
I would also appreciate having 2 computers at home/office.

I presently run : PowerBook G4 1.5 ghz (2000$) + Dell 22″ widescreen (350$) + 400gig exernal drive (250$)

I am looking to a solution to either

option 1 : Get a new mac (1800-3000$), keep the old one close.

option 2 : Get a PC (500$), keep the old one close, but will still need to be changed one day or another. (I like less the option #2 tough, but it is way cheaper)

…and as option 1, this is where i get confused… I can’t decide if I would got for a macbook 13″ - macbook15″, or a imac 20″ - imac 24″ (and sell my widescreen), or go big with a huge macpro ??
I kind of appreciate the combo of having a laptop and close it to plug a big screen, it helps sometimes… but maybe the imac is the best bang for the buck ?

I updated to IE8 and now all my links in the favorites folder do not have a url attached. I tried to google for the problem and some information I found suggested a wrong path in the registry. I looked at that and did not see a wrong path.

Does anybody else have the same issue?
Can I roll back to IE7 if I can not fix this?
